Wed, 27 Aug 2008 22:51:31 +0000
Following my guest a few weeks ago, Pauline Bax, who discussed her visit to Mauritania and her research into the issue of selling fishing rights to EU companies, several experts from around the world were quite upset. Their frustration was related to the issue of ocean bottom trolling, a practice which has been banned in [...] - People Outside, My People

Just wanted to dedicate a few minutes to saluting the trouble makers outside the democrat party convention in Colorado. While inside it is all smiling faces, boring pre-written speaches, and picture perfect pageantry, outside the convention- people are standing up, sitting down, marching, and engaging in all kinds of demonstrations related to issues of ending wars, [...] - Update - BaghdadBrian Released!

I received news from Eowyn earlier today that BaghdadBrian has been freed and is en route to Los Angeles. 7 other US citizens were also released. Unfortunately 2 other international detainees who I believe were being held with Brian are still being held and their fate is unknown. Apparently the amount of international pressure demanding their [...] - bm275 Baghdad Brian Arrested in China

An unexpected series of emails came my way today from several concerned citizens around the world, as well as Greenpeace Netherlands. The topic of these emails was a reaction to my podcast with Pauline last week, regarding some of her work in West Africa over the last year. In that program I brought up the topic [...] - bm274 The Ironbound Through My Father?s Eyes

Before the Portuguese came to the Ironbound, before the uprisings of 1967, and before the manufacturing industry moved south, my father made a life for himself in Newark. In another of a series of podcasts that focus on my family, and the history they have lived through, this program focuses on the Ironbound through the [...] - Til Soon Lisbon

For almost 2 decades, the military alliance known as NATO has been expanding to include most of Eastern Europe. Originally founded to oppose the Soviet Union and it’s allies, NATO leaders have insisted for the last few years that it is no longer to oppose Russia, but to fight terrorism and increase security. Meanwhile many [...] - bm273 Spam Producers and Fishing Rights in West Africa

One of my all time favorite guests on the program, Ivory Coast based journalist Pauline Bax, came to visit me in Amsterdam last week. Fri, 08 Aug 2008 22:36:08 +0000
No this is not a spam post. While in the United States I usually watch a bit of television and I definitely spend time listening to the radio. One thing you’ll have no problem encountering on both of these mediums: ads that include the phrase “ASk Your Doctor About…” and then some perscription drug to help [...] - bm272 What Vermont Soy is all About

Vermont Organic Soy is in high demand as more and more people in that part of the United States demand a range of soy products that are organic and grown locally. Mon, 04 Aug 2008 22:36:45 +0000
Mental Hospitals are always an issue of great concern and sometimes fascination (in terms of those that have been closed down under odd circumstances) for me. In the past on this blog I’ve made reference to an abandoned hospital in my home state of new jersey, Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. Opened in the late 1800’s [...] - bmtv89 The End of Agriculture in California..?

In the great tradition of stream-of-consciousness podcasters, I’m breaking out of the usual format for this edition. Instead I’m in the kitchen, making a snack, and discussing the issues for the coming months, as well as a quick summary of how my talk went at the Hope conference, and some other notes for you the [...] - Keeping Promises in OZ

Depending on where you live in the world or what media you consult in your daily life, you may not often hear about things happening in Australia. You might hear the occasional story from a friend who travelled there or perhaps its the summertime wild fires that manage to make the oldstream media reports around [...] - Not Just Comments

This site… or blog if you prefer to call it.. is fast approaching its 7th year in existence. The podcast, soon to be on its 5th year. And even years before any of this, I edited my own little website on a long forgotten service called geocities, where I would write news commentary. And the [...] - bmtv88 Your Lawn, Our Ocean
