Okay I have to admit I was a skeptic. I thought the first episode was really good--but didn't imagine these Oneupweb guys could keep it up. I learn something in every episode--especially ...

    Thu, 24 Aug 2006 16:25:00 -0400
Times they are a changin'. This week while the Oneupweb team is hard at work in the kitchen, cooking up a new format for the StraightUpSearch podcast, they are serving up some of their favorite segments from the past. From GeoDucts to the Pope and everything between, here are some of our favorite moments from the first 16 episodes.

StraightUpSearch Episode 16 - Candidates, Kaleidoscopes & Catastrophic Injuries
    Fri, 18 Aug 2006 13:00:00 -0400
What Were They Thinking - it's not just for web sites anymore! In a WWTT first, the team discusses the interview process and gives some sure fire ways guaranteed to prevent you from getting hired. Followed by a double barreled shot of rant covering both Google and Yahoo!, and a cool tool designed to help you pick a complementary, and eye-appealing color pallet. The show ends with a look at the gut wrenching world of sports injuries. That doesn't look that bad, just turn your foot back around and walk it off.

StraightUpSearch Episode 15 - Fast Food & Verb Agreement
    Mon, 14 Aug 2006 17:00:00 -0400
"BA-DA-DA-DAH-DAAAAH, who's lovin' it?" We're down, but we're not out-take that, office plague! This installment starts with a look into the world of online fast food and discusses just how far away from your target audience your message can get. Premium salad and bottled water in hand, the team turns their attention to Google and the recent legal actions taken by the company to prevent the misuse and possible "genericide" of their name. Following, you'll get a bit of cool tool self-promotion; then, this week's podcast wraps up with a random keyword search inspired by the actions of a once brilliant collegiate star, who after a failed NFL career has found new ways to help electrify audiences. Please pull ahead to the second window - it's episode 15.

StraightUpSearch Episode 14 - DIY Made Difficult & Power Tool Mishaps
    Fri, 04 Aug 2006 13:00:00 -0400
Lemonade, open fire hydrants, do-it-yourself home improvement projects, and head wounds. It must be summer. In the spirit of summer projects, Oneupweb takes a look at the online stores of the do-it-yourself big boys and discovers the only thing more difficult than building a gazebo is finding the material to complete it. Back after a two week hiatus, the Google Rant returns to its roots and looks at the latest marketing channel infected by Google's reach - XM Radio. Speaking of infected, this week's cool tool segment discusses the importance of backing up your hard drive to prevent against potential losses. Finally, this week's Random Keyword Search reminds us what a pain in the neck, and head, working with a high-powered nail gun can be.

StraightUpSearch Episode 13 - Don't Go Chasing Tennessee Waterfalls
    Fri, 28 Jul 2006 13:00:00 -0400
Take a walk on the wild side with the Oneupweb team as they discover that no matter how hard they try, some sites just don't start off on the right (or left) foot with users. Google is spared again this week as the rant focuses instead on net neutrality, and the possibility of a monetarily influenced Internet. Followed by a two-for-one cool tool and useful tip on watermarks and image protection, this week's random keyword search, explores the fascinating world of acronyms, and discovers what an episode of Cops would be like if the officers never showed up. Get ready for mullets and mayhem - It's episode 13.

StraightUpSearch Episode 12 - PPC Blunders & the Excitement of Nature
    Fri, 21 Jul 2006 13:00:00 -0400
The format continues to evolve this week as the Oneupweb team moves the WWTT away from the drudgery of poorly designed sites and places it in the front-and-center world of poorly managed PPC advertisements. After all, Father's Day is only 11 months away. In another first, the team lays off of Google and instead turns their attention to Yahoo! and Ask and their retroactive approach to paid search reporting. Followed by an "oldy but goody" cool tool, this weeks random keyword search pops up an educational and uncomfortable look at the Geoduck. If you think you're up for it, here's episode 12.

StraightUpSearch Episode 11 - Flash Done Right - Inventions Gone Wrong
    Fri, 14 Jul 2006 13:00:00 -0400
Did you miss the detour? This week the Oneupweb team veers off the format path to give praise to an innovative online marketing plan that despite using many of the features usually chastised in the WWTT, comes out looking pretty as a peach, or in this case, a grapefruit. Back on-track, the team gives a shout-out to a free online stats tool for beginners - and just shouts at Google, as their roots start to spread into the company's local backyard. Finally, this week's Random Keyword search delves deep into the psyche of America's inventors and begs the question, "The Gerbil Shirt - Why didn't I think of that?"

StraightUpSearch Episode 10 - Mug Shots & A Steel Pipe to the Head
    Fri, 30 Jun 2006 13:00:00 -0400
In this weeks' What Were They Thinking the Oneupweb team learns that although steel can be formed into almost any shape without ever delaminating, the one shape it can't take is that of a usable website. Turning their attention toward the Google Rant, the team takes a shot at Google's new PayPal rip-off "Check Out" and their "anything you can do, we can copy and release in beta" attitude. And speaking of shots, line them up and have a look, as this weeks' random keyword search reminds us that a mug shot is worth a 1000 words. Unless it's Nick Nolte's, then it's worth a lot more.

StraightUpSearch Episode 9 - Art Appreciation & Spider Squashing
    Fri, 23 Jun 2006 13:00:00 -0400
This week's 'creature feature' explores how arachnids adapt from one web to another. Based on the findings, it's safe to say, not well. After squashing the spider and scraping the remains from the bottom of her shoe, things get pretty heated as Lisa and the team turn their attention to a top 10 Google rant inspired by listener Ryan. Finally, the random keyword search adds a little culture to the podcast as the Oneupweb team learns that defining art is a subjective matter and that there is definitely more than one way to skin a cat - literally.

StraightUpSearch Episode 8 - Edible Insect Cooking Tips for Cults
    Mon, 19 Jun 2006 13:00:00 -0400
Fire up the grill, Oneupweb is cooking another podcast. This weeks recipe is a succulent dish featuring a B-to-C site tossed in a sauce of missed opportunities. Served with a random keyword search medley featuring edible insects that have been lightly seasoned with the tears of one podcast member, this dish is perfect for large groups, or cults. Speaking of cults, this weeks Google rant looks into their continued efforts to create an unrealistic, utopian work community that accommodates all of their employees needs, reducing the need to leave, and horribly skewing their view of the real world. Looks like Jim Jones is not the only one handing out Kool-Aid.

StraightUpSearch Episode 7 - Make Up Your Own Definitions & Just Take a Little Off the Top
    Fri, 09 Jun 2006 13:00:00 -0400
From a site that has probably caused more seizures then strobe lights, to a unanimously praised tool that allows you to view your site in multiple browsers and a rant that extends beyond Google into the world of potential lies, half-truths and questionable credibility known as Wikipedia, this episode really does have it all. Finally, in our random keyword search, we ask the question, "Is there really anything better then the trifecta of Pat Morita, Ralph Macchio and David Hasselhoff?" There is, and we've found it. We'll give you a hint - think carpet removal.

Listen in as the Oneupweb team targets online arrogance, and discusses an industry leading marketing agency walked directly into their "What were they thinking?" sights. And speaking of online marketing, more good news for Google shareholders: they have discovered yet another way to increase revenue: too bad it inflates costs and decreases ROI for AdWords advertisers. Finally, in this week's Random Keyword Search Lisa, Dave, and Tim learn that if pain is good, someone else's pain captured on video is fantastic.

In an episode containing comments on two of the scariest things imaginable, former American Idol contestants and Brazilian pedophiles, the Oneupweb team discusses the short-sightedness of one Fortune 500 company's online efforts and Google's "shoot first" attitude toward social responsibility. Finally, in a random keyword search shocker, we learn that everyone's favorite foul mouthed, self delusional hoochie in a halter top, Rhonetta Johnson is famous for more than just her American Idol performance.

And for those of you considering purchasing airline tickets online, listen as the Oneupweb team airs out their thoughts on the website of a major carrier and suggests that they may want to consider changing their slogan to "You are now free to move around the country, just not around our website."
