A little different format today. I like trying new things. In the Creative writing segment, I talk about Getting Ideas. In the Poetry of the past segment, I read some really old 17th, 18th century poetry by a series of poets who wrote "Sleeping Beauty" poetry. In the New Poetry segment, I read two new poems that I currently wrote: "The Many Faces" and "Words Incantation". In my webpick of the week, I highlight Lulu.com as an awesome way to get your creative writing creations published. I hope you enjoy the 20 Minute show. It is important for all Americans to unite behind true ideas,
to give our energies, our hope, and our faith to a national idea that is truely by the people and for the people. It is not a time of separation. It is a time of unity. Our founding fathers call out to us from the halls of history to take our country back to the spirit of the constitution, water that seed, and grow a new future for our children's children. It is our duty to honor life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness for the greater freedom for not just Americans, but all creations within the body of God. - Power OGG Episode 11

by Robert G Parent
listen to Dance of Despair
Some thoughts after the poem. When I started writing this poem, I was in a very dark place. I was in despair. I was hopless. I just wanted everything to stop, but things don't stop. They continue. Its the one thing we can count on. Why? because as the great poem or prayer says...when there is despair, there is hope. This is the cycle of creation. This is the cycle of learning. We move from despair to hope everyday. This is one thing we can count on. When we are in despair, hope will be there soon. When we are hopeful, despair will come. The moment that makes the difference is now. Within our being the light always shines. So if the light always shines, all is good, if we can learn one lesson it is this. Though hope and despair, our light is always shining. In this truth, all knowledge is known and wisdom is seen or lived only in life's classroom.
so if your in a dark place, write out your feelings so they don't bottle up. Doing this will start to let healing into your being. - The Write Stuff Video episode 1

What Teacher's Make
Hey all, here is a poem from Taylor Mali on You Tube. I've had teachers who've made a difference in my life. One of them was a creative writing teacher at a local college. Have you had a teacher in your life that made a difference for you? Or are you a teacher that has or have made a difference in the lives of your students, who inspired you? Let us all celebrate those teachers who were there when we needed them.
thank you :)

How we vote
by Robert G Parent
Below is a quote from a yahoo group I'm apart. It was just a quote posted on the forum. It got me thinking about politics and how people vote. People in this country tend to vote on emotion and not looking at the facts of what all the candidates values are. We can know what kind of president, senator, governor, or any other elected official is by looking back on their history. What did they vote on? What mistakes they made (we all make them)? Did they learn from their mistakes? We in this country need to start voting differently. We need to ask questions like these. All politicians promise us the world. They play on our emotions. And we continue to be chained to this cycle until we decide to vote differently. Do something different then we've done in the past. It's time that more people in this country take the responsibility to make this country an even better place for all. we take our freedom for granted and give our power away to the flavor of the day. We (all of us) must decide where we want to go, where we want our country to move to and honor our founding fathers for the dream, the light in a darken world that they made possible 200 years ago. This time is ours. Will we be lead by our emotions or something higher?
"A bill he has sponsored in the U.S. Senate, the so-called Global Poverty Act
(S. 2433), would raise the amount of American tax dollars allocated to United Nations?? redistribution efforts to $845 billion.
That??s $2,500 from every American taxpayer, when many in our country already are struggling to make ends meet.
And if you think taxes and energy costs are high now, wait until Obama??s global energy and production taxes are made law by the Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid-run Democrat Congress.
Is this what Pelosi meant when she said, ??I??m trying to save the planet! I??m trying to save the planet!??
Senator Obama and the Democrats don??t seem to understand that American prosperity is a result of the hard work of American citizens in a free market economy. And that the American people already are the most generous in the world when it comes to global aid.
Help us show Barack Obama that Americans don??t need foreign approval to lead their lives as they see fit, and that he ought to remember that he is running for president of the United States, not the United Nations." - Light in the Darkness

Light in the Darkness
by Robert G Parent
I want to talk about the times we live in now, everyone is saying recession, tough economic time, job market, housing markets, stock markets are down. All people see is the darkness that is out there. Well maybe not all people, there are those in the financial business that understand cycles. Who say, there is opportunity out there. I say they are right.
I'm out of a job currently and have been looking for one, for the past two weeks now. And you know, there are many jobs out there. There are companies still growing and need good people, which they have plenty to choose from. I've been interviewed for jobs in companies that lead to management ( Leadership ) positions. I've been thinking about leadership and management for some time now and didn't realize those types of jobs until now, until I was jobless at my percieved lowest place. I have a better chance to get into a better job, and it looks like that whatever is my next job. It will lead to leadership. There is light in the darkness. Or, maybe it's best said, when you shine a light on your darkness, your fears, and see what is really there, you also see opportunity.
You can be at the very bottom, at least from your point of view, in the metiphorical pit of darkness, and look around, shine a light on the darkness, you will see the opportunity out there. It can lead you out of the capitivity, the captivity of our fears, to a new land, a new place. Because its when you perceive yourself to be at your lowest that you can soar among the clouds. What it all boils down to is where do you want to put your attention, in the bucket of Crabs or soaring with the Eagles. The choice is always ours. - The List Poem

"Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher is born on this day in Albion, Michigan.
Her father, a fourth-generation writer, purchased a newspaper in Whittier, California, where the family moved in 1911. In 1929, Fisher moved to France with her first husband, where she developed her twin passions: food and writing. She published her first story in 1934, using her initials to conceal her identity. In 1937, her first book, Serve It Forth, was published. She was highly productive for the next decade or so, producing nine books on food, including How to Cook a Wolf (1942) and The Gastronomic Me (1943)." - This day in history

Hey all, I haven't put anything up here for awhile. I've been a bit busy, still writing new poetry. I'm hoping to put up some audio poetry this week, but in the meantime checkout this from the History Channel.
from the at History Channel
"Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawkings breaks British publishing records on this day in 1992. His book, A Brief History of Time, has been on the nonfiction bestseller list for three and a half years, selling more than 3 million copies in 22 languages.
A Brief History of Time explained the latest theories on the origins of the universe in language accessible to educated lay people. The book was made into an acclaimed documentary in 1992, which focused largely on Hawkings' own story."
"On this day in 1964, U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs into law the historic Civil Rights Act in a nationally televised ceremony at the White House.
In the landmark 1954 case Brown v. Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. The 10 years that followed saw great strides for the African-American civil rights movement, as non-violent demonstrations won thousands of supporters to the cause. Memorable landmarks in the struggle included the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955--sparked by the refusal of Alabama resident Rosa Parks to give up her seat on a city bus to a white woman--and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I have a dream" speech at a rally of hundreds of thousands in Washington, D.C., in 1963."
Also on this day July 2, 1990.
"Pilgrim stampede kills 1,400 A stampede of religious pilgrims in a pedestrian tunnel in Mecca leaves more than 1,400 people dead on this day in 1990. This was the most deadly of a series of incidents over 20 years affecting Muslims making the trip to Mecca. "
"On this day in 1910, the only existing negatives for many early Vitagraph films are destroyed by a fire in New York. Vitagraph, one of the first film studios, began shooting movies in 1897. The company flourished in the silent-film era, introducing future stars like Rudolph Valentino and Norma Talmadge. Warner Bros. purchased the company in 1925."
"On this day in 1934, Fox Film Corp. strikes a new contract with child star Shirley Temple. Temple was six years old at the time. Starting at age four, Temple starred in a series of shorts spoofing current movies, called Baby Burlesks, and appeared in bit parts. Her song and dance number "Baby Take a Bow" in the 1934 movie Stand Up and Cheer brought her wide acclaim. Her new contract with Fox raised her salary from $150 a week to $1,000 a week, plus a $35,000 bonus for each film she made. The contract also paid her mother $250 a week."
"On this day in 1955, long-running musical-variety program The Lawrence Welk Show debuts on ABC. Welk, a bandleader from North Dakota known for light dance music, had launched his own show in 1951 on a local Los Angeles channel. The show remained a network hit for some 16 years, then became a syndicated series. Welk retired in 1982 and died in 1992." - Truth of Story
