bobCast #26 The Steve Eliot Cast

The world famous Steve Eliot joins us today to bring us up to date on all the things he has been doing since his retirement 5 years ago. Steve is a special person in my life. He introduced me to the computer and the wonders of technology way back in 1983 right after I came to BCC as the technical director of the Theatre Department on Central Campus. Two of my sons took Steve for Art, while they were students here at the college, and he had them running all over South Florida looking for art. His classes were always the most creative and interesting my sons ever had, and they still talk about them today. Steve is a real teacher's teacher. When you were in Steve's class and the classtime was over, you hated to leave the room. Steve always marched to the sound of a different drum and sometimes the drum didn't even look like a drum at all. The slogan "Why be normal?" fits Steve's approach to life. He has traveled and created video with his trusted Macintosh computer which he was using long before most of the rest of us.
Anyway, click on this link to hear my interview with Steve. I hope you enjoy hearing it half as much as I did in recording it.

    bobCast #19 A Mid-Summer's bobCast

In this bobCast, I talk about setting up of two roundtable podcasts, and introduce the newest podcast in town known as the "ToddCast".
    The ToddCast

This podcast is produced and presented by Dr. Todd Westerfeld of the Student Affairs Department on Broward Community College's South Campus. Todd covers events that come under area of Students Affairs which includes some of the workshops to help improve student performance. The ToddCast can be accessed at http:www.broward.edu/~twesterf/podcasts . Check out this podcast and drop us an email and let us know what you think of the new show or even the old show for that matter. You can reach me at rbuford@broward.edu and Todd at twestf@broward.edu .
    Roundtable Discussions

The Broward County Library approached me a few weeks back about creating a podcast on a couple of events they were having at the South Campus. The first of these was Roundtable discussion on Terrorism and the second was Roundtable on Fatherhood in different cultures. The first event was to be held in the "Mass-media Room" of the Library and the second was to be held in what we refer to as the "South Campus Theater" also known as the Teaching Auditorium by some of the old timers at the campus.
Check it out. I think you will find it interesting.

    bobCast #18 Finding Good Podcasts

    Finding Good examples of Podcasts

Remember the teacher in school who made you want to attend class so that you wouldn?t miss anything? Not because you might not do well on the final exam, but because you enjoyed the class and you did not want to miss what the teacher had to say. Well podcasting let?s this type of teacher shine.

Looking for examples of podcasts I ran across a teacher named Bob Packett who has an easy going style of presentation that makes you want to come back for more. As some of you may know, I enjoy history, and the part of history I like the most is the "people part". Stories of the people from history who shaped the world we live in today. Too many times people get the idea that these people are just characters in a book, but tese were real people who lived and breathed. This prospective makes history come to life for me. Professor Packett does many of the things that makes history interesting while allowing me to learn the important points that make the events important.

    History According To Bob
This is a daily podcast that is produced by a man and wife team. Professor Bob does the recordings and his wife acts as his technical support. She posts the files to his website and creates his RSS feed, and might even post the changes to his website. This podcast can be found at http://www.summahistorica.com or http://www.historyaccordingtobob.com .

    Discription from website.
Professor Bob Packett has been teaching history for thirty-one years. His passion for history permeates his entire life, from the thousands of primary resouce materials in his personal library, to his collection of historical artifacts.

Professor Bob loves to tell stories of the real people behind the often sterile descriptions found in history texts. His conversational style, filled with anecdotes, quips, and humor, will bring to life the characters of history.

Now, through the technology of podcasting, you can also enjoy what Professor Bob's students have been enjoying for years ? history that comes alive.

Check it out. I think you will find it interesting.

Several students from my Introduction To Speech Communication class give a classroom presentation on decisions that they have made regarding their group discussion project. In the project the students must select two people from a list to recieve scholarships that will allow these people to complete four years of college. Should they base their choices on merit or on need? Podcasts such as this will allow the students from different classes to hear what other students with the same assignments have to say about their solution to the same problems.
