On todayâs show we are proud to feature an exclusive backstage interview with one of the stars of the new broadaway show, LENNON, Ms. Julia Murney. The show uses the music of John Lennon (post-Beatles) to tell his life story. I have to say, I had a great time at the show, however, most of the critics did not. The show has struggled at the box office, and as result, Lennon will close Saturday, September 24th. Oy. That being said, Julia and I had a great chat about the show, the state of musical theatre, and the pros and cons of the internet theatre community. Itâs a great listen, and I hope you enjoy it. People want more. Especially when it comes to the world of entertainment. No longer is it enough to just have the music, but now their must be visual to go along with it. MTV certainly started a revolution over 20 years ago, but that was nothing compared to today. Now music videos are everywhere, cell phones, computers, even on the flip side of a majority of new CDÃïïs. The mid 80Ãïïs saw the start of putting concerts on video and selling them in stores. These days, it is unheard of not to have a DVD release of either a collection of music videos or a live concert. Even Devo have put out a few. Today we look at a few releases that I enjoy. Some are pretty mainstream. Some are not. Our newest show is a biggie. For over an hour, get an inside look to the world of Musical Theatre Cast Recordings. What is a cast recording, you ask? A cast recording is a recorded version of some sort of stage play. Be it Broadway, or very very off-Broadway. Be it straight play or mega-musical, the cast recording is a souvenir as well as an art form. It is, however, an art form, that with live theatre itself, is having a much harder time being commercially successful. Be that as it may, there is more than hope. Two wonderful record labels, PS Classics and Ghostlight Records (part of Sh-K-Boom Records) have gone places that no giant music label dare go. Not only are these labels preserving musical theatre scores beautifully, but they are taking the business in a whole new direction. On the show we feature interviews with both Tommy Kraser, and Kurt Deutch, the presidents of PS Classics, and Ghostlight Records, respectively. Also on the show is Michael Portaintiere, from Theatermania.com. They have just published the wonderful Theatermania.com Guide To Musical Theater Recordings. Today on Green Room Radio, we talk to broadway producer and film director Dori Berinstein. After over 15 years in the behind the scenes world of theatre, Dori decided to bring her passion to the big screen in the new documentry, Show Business. The documentry profiles the 2003-2004 Broadway season as a whole, while focusing on the shows Wicked, Avenue Q, Taboo, and Caroline Or Change. The film, which recently had a huge premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, is an amazing study of the unsteady world of mixing art with commercial theatre and makes the best reality entertainment I've ever seen. The good old days of Nickelodeon are back! The wonderful TV network Nickelodeon have started to release their classic shows to DVD as part of their "rewind collection." The first show to debut is none other than 'The Adventures Of Pete & Pete," the classic tale of 2 red haired brothers who lived in a world that was totally their own. (That's the best way I know how to describe the show.) The DVD will be released on May 17, 2005, along with the first season of the another classic Nickelodeon show, "Clarissa Explains It All." Today we feature a wonderful interview with one of the creators of the show, Will McRobb. He was totally cool, and you can tell that Will, even 10 years later, still thinks very highly of his creation. Also check out the band Polaris, who provided the theme song for "Pete & Pete." Well here it is folks, the premiere of our new show, Digital Get Down. This is Green Room Radio's look into the world of DVD's. We caught up with the hilarious and super-talented performer, Kaitlin Hopkins, after a recent performance of Disney's On The Record, which she is starring in on tour around the country. Kaitlin, most known for her performance as Meredith in the hilarious off-broadway musical, Bat Boy, talks with us about her work on that show and the rest of her work as an actress on stage and on screen. In "On The Record" Kaitlin, along with 7 other cast members, sing the extra-large Disney Songbook, and she tells us how much those songs mean to her. She also talks frankly about her work on Bare, The Musical, which she recently starred in off broadway, and the pain it caused her when the show cancelled it's planned commercial off-Broadway run.
