- Insatiable Banalities Podcast # 100 - The bridge between
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 05:25:44 +0000
Canberra?s longest running, and least reliable, podcast is back to grace your speakers. This week we celebrate the milestone of reaching 100 episodes by doing nothing at all out of the ordinary. In this episode a very rare professional act (as in they make all their income from their music), The Bridge Between, come in and [...] - Flame of the week - S-C on the Gungahlin hit and run
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 04:51:41 +0000
Newbie S-C has made a late submission on the fatal Gungahlin hit and run last New Years Eve. “Mr Evil and popgoescanberra you do not know her how dare you say that she is a nutcase. i went to school with her. and she was a lovely young lady with more potential than you or any one [...] - ACTPLA Hunky Dory - but going under the knife
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 03:50:05 +0000
Is there any body in Canberra as maligned as the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA)? The ABC reports that Mr Stanhope has promised his new developer friends that he’s going to take a look at how the authority goes about its business. ‘”In these times we will begin to see our unemployment rate rise, we will [...] - Corinbank 2009 - It?s on and get your tickets now.
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 02:22:10 +0000
[ 27 February, 2009 to 1 March, 2009. ] [First filed: November 30, 2008 @ 23:07] From midnight 1 December the advance tickets for Corinbank 2009 are on sale from www.corinbank.com. The festival is running from 27 February to 1 March 2009. On Sunday afternoon I sat down with organisers Nic Welbourn and Dan Watters to find out about where this unique Canberra music festival has [...] - Over the front - the Great War in the air - a review
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 02:19:31 +0000
The War Memorial’s latest blockbuster Over the front is now open to the public and I went along this morning to see what magic Peter Jackson had wrought with the audio-visual presentation. The exhibition and curation of artifacts is decidedly light weight. I suppose this is a function of the internet these days. They assume that [...] - Accident on Northbourne - 3 lanes closed
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 02:17:17 +0000
My sources tell me that there’s been a decent sized bingle at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Macarthur, with 3 lanes of Northbourne Ave currently closed to traffic. So it might be worth avoiding that route for the next couple of hours. UPDATED: Ed - When I got down there a bit before two [...] - ANZAC Parade southbound shuts down
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 02:06:00 +0000
With the roadworks on ANZAC Parade gathering place the NCA’s warning that they’re pulling another switch: The parade’s southbound lanes will be closed between Fairbairn Avenue and Constitution Avenue until April 2009. Access between Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Parade will also be closed. Traffic will be redirected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Buses [...] - Foreshore cleanup
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 01:58:21 +0000
With the Foreshore festival choosing to use iconic public locales there’s a legitimate public interest in the clean-up. To that end I wandered down this morning, three days later, to see how they’re going. Most of the site is still fenced, and there’s a lot of heavy machinery still hard at work. You can get down into Commonwealth [...] - Simon says it?s time to be ready for bushfires
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 01:52:12 +0000
The Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, is worried that you’re all going to be too busy getting shickered this Christmas to prepare your properties for bushfires (OK, his exact words were: “Once Christmas day arrives we usually spend most of our time with loved ones, meaning bushfire preparations are not necessarily a [...] - Police Wrap - 2 December
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 01:04:47 +0000
1. There was a fatal accident in Kingston yesterday: ACT Policing is investigating a two vehicle collision in Kingston today (Monday, 1 December) that has resulted in the death of an elderly woman. About 12.10pm a white Mazda sedan and a light truck collided at the intersection of Wentworth Avenue and Mildura Street. The driver of the Mazda, [...] - Canberra roundabouts celebrated in retro disco and dodgy transitions
Mon, 01 Dec 2008 22:25:30 +0000
On YouTube SheerspiteDemon has posted a celebration of Canberra’s roundabouts. It’s notable for the cheesy old Dead Or Alive sound track and the use of every transition available in iMovie. - A hotter, wetter spring
Mon, 01 Dec 2008 21:57:34 +0000
The ABC reports that we’ve just had the wettest spring in three years with November high above the average for rainfall. “Bureau of Meteorology figures show 85 millimetres of that fell during November at Canberra Airport. That is more than the November average of 65 millimetres but not as wet as the same time last year.” - NATURE STRIP TREES
Mon, 01 Dec 2008 21:50:37 +0000
Who can tell me if I am allowed to (legally) cut down a tree that doesn’t allow my garden to grow? It’s one of those huge pine needle dropping Pines that cover and kill my lawn and anything I plant underneath it or near to it. All the needles that fall from it clog the gutters and cover half [...] - Mark Parton ? hey 2ca, we need that afternoon bloke in the mornings!
Mon, 01 Dec 2008 21:44:33 +0000
This afternoon I heard Mark Parton on 2ca, and couldn?t believe it. What a breath of fresh air on that tired sounding AM station! I used to listen to him on 106 until he left and I switched to Art Sound. But driving past the Albert Hall in a taxi today (where I still remember Sherbet performing [...] - Please lobby ACTION and ACT Govt to provide bus route and schedule data to Google
Mon, 01 Dec 2008 21:42:12 +0000
I’m sure that some of you have used Google Maps. The latest versions, including the one for the iPhone can plan a route for you using public transport, as well as the “traditional” car and pedestrian route planning. In Australia right now you can only do it for two cities (Adelaide and Perth) because these [...]
