Dean Madonia 1- No Tomorrow 2- American Love Song Very Prog-Rock feel to those two. Dean Madonia has led an interesting life, playing piano and guitar from a young age. His father was a musician, and I guess Dean had it in his blood, working in studios and playing wherever whenever he could. The saga of his album "Light Of Reason" getting lost in a studio move is an fascinating read on his website. To get links to his site and where to buy his CDs, please come to AudioPopcorn.net. While you're there, drop me a comment, or leave me a few words on my comment line 763-390-5051. I'll try to talk to you again soon. Formed nearly 15 years ago at Chico State in Northern California, The Mother Hips have seen it all, and there are already two documentaries about them-Stories We Could Tell and This Is The Sound-to prove it. They've gone from dorm band to buzz band to cult favorite; they've taken a truckload of drugs and then kicked their habits; they've played with everyone from Wilco to Johnny Cash. Back together for this new release in 2007, they exhibit their strengths as a cohesive band who enjoy playing together. "Kiss The Crystal Flake" is an extremely strong showing for a group who's been together for this long.

Just to let you know, folks: some script-kiddie with nothing better to do than destroy other people's work hacked the OKAZOO site last week, just before I was getting ready to post a new OKAZOO and AudioPopcorn #50. I worked on it very late to try to clean it up, and in a red-eyed haze... accidentally deleted my database! I cried.....and went to bed. Raised in Wichita and Kansas City, Greg began playing piano at age 5 and spent most of his formative years inside playing Beatles songs. After graduation, Greg moved to New York City. Sep. 11, 2001 was the catalyst for taking his keyboard to the subway and starting a career in music. After a short while playing and singing in the subway, Greg started to get work in many New York City piano bars including the Duplex, Rose's Turn and Brandy's. His repertoire as a piano bar player is unique in that it's focused on current pop-rock music, including alternative and harder rock. Greg started recording his own album in the fall of 2002, and —with the help of nearly 50 other musicians -- he finished the album two years later, around Christmas in 2004. All the tracks on the album, Rings in Spaces, were written and produced by Greg. He used a wide variety of excellent musicians including Meg Okura, Scott Selig, Dave Eggar, Vic Thrill, Eugene Lavenue and also drummer/programmer Gregg Williams. Steve Rossiter and Robbie Adams mixed the album.

the Republic of Heaven is the first full-length release from husband-and-wife dreampop band the Endless. After two widely successful EPs, 2002's “Grumpy Ghost” and 2003's “and i'm the queen of the moon”, the duo release their most sonically and emotionally complex work yet: a haunting blend of electronic and alternative rock, rich in imagery and hailing from the tradition of such musical innovators as Kate Bush, Poe, Tori Amos, Jane Siberry, and This Mortal Coil. Adriana and David Róze work as a symbiotic unit: lovers, band mates, best friends, and co-creators. As Legends Magazine describes it, “It's almost like these two put everything out there: the persons they are, their entire being… some of the songs appear that personal. Naked indeed.”

Brian Cook, Rebecca Scott, and a drum machine formed Panda Riot in late July of 2005, while working on the soundtrack to a short documentary on marine biology. The many underwater scenes and airplane shots of the film inspired a blissful, swirl-pop, sing-along sonar aesthetic that was so delightful, they made a band of it. Their music depends on a drum machine, blown-out guitar sounds, a keyboard plugged through a death metal pedal, and the whimsical wafts of Rebecca's breathy soprano. Panda Riot plays extensively in Philadelphia in New York City's East Village, and the band continually demos an ever expanding set of songs.

Rick left everything he knew about himself and his music to travel abroad. From awe-inspiring sights in Istanbul to quiet introspective days in Lisbon, the experience fuelled the creation of the songs, the band and ultimately the record. As Rick puts it – “The perspective I got from leaving gave me the drive to do what I always wanted to do. I was able to eliminate the bullshit and focus on what really matters.”

Balanced on the brink of 60's folk literacy and modern adult alternative, Rose has been able to straddle the largely streamlined music scene, opening for acts such as David Gray, Kristin Hersh, and Vic Chestnutt, as natural in a rock club as a coffeehouse.

Embarassment ensues!! 20051014 : Don't know what is goign on at Ourmedia.org… but I posted this file at 4PM Eastern yesterday, and it's still not available at 3PM today… 20051015 : Ok, finally was able to get an actual web page returned from Ourmedia.org, and having posted this file on this local server out of desperation, I discover that it's corrupted! It wasn't corrupted before I sent it up to Ourmedia.org… but now the file is corrupted… what is up with that?? Phooey!! Anne Davis is a great singer-songwriter whose music has been sitting in my playlist at the Podsafe Music Network for a couple of months now, yikes!

Casey was born to musical parents; both members of the legendary Bentmen who are still pushing the limits of experimental theatre-rock. At the age of 14, Casey decided to form a band with some schoolmates and released an album which got some airplay on local college radio. She then recorded a solo album, and started playing coffee-houses and clubs around New England.

Now 19, Casey has recorded a new album, available at CDBaby, and from what I have heard there, it really kicks!

bill (B-I-L-L all lower case) was formed in the fall of 2003 by three long time friends Curtis Hartling, Jonathan Coyle and Dave Marciano. According to what I've dug up, they were high school friends in New York, and all ended up in California within a couple of years of each other. However the band came to be, they are very talented, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.

Today we feature The Shapes from New York City. This five-piece power-pop group makes the good energy flow. I can't help from chair-dancing as I'm recording this. That's a beautiful bassline hook in "Dreaming Of An M16". "Monochrome" is reminiscent of harder-edged euro-pop material, like early Cranberries. I've made up my mind that this is my next CD purchase. The Shapes have recently put a new song on the Pod Safe Music Network's website and it's definitely in line with the quality of material you've just heard, so for a slightly longer show: here it is! Ironically, it's the name of a medium-security prison here in Montreal. It's called Bordeaux. Enjoy…
