- The Bart Chucker Band
Sun, 18 Sep 2005 20:33:29 -0800
Genre: Pop Rock Artist: The Bart Chucker Band Album: In a Lifetime Label: Lost Cat Records Website: bartchucker.com This week?s featured artist is The Bart Chucker band. Bart is a prominent attorney turned musician, who after a bit of soul searching after loosing two classmates in the World Trade Centers on 9/11 decided to make a difference. His album, In a Lifetime, is the realization of that decision. The album is somewhat reminiscent of something you would hear from Joe Walsh or Neil Young with more of a pop rock flavor. He is definitely an artist who shares his thoughts and emotions expressed through his music without being overbearing or preachy. If you want to find out more about The Bart Chucker band, you can checkout his website, bartchucker.com, or via his record label?s website, lostcatrecords.com. With your purchase of In a Lifetime, Bart will donate one dollar from the sale to the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer (ASK). He is an artist who is trying to make a difference. This is certainly the soul that has been lost in today?s music found here in this Virginia based band. Track List Track 1: 00:14 to 5:29 In a Lifetime Track 2: 09:54 to 13:20 Feel Like Track 3: 13:20 to 17:14 Shannon Track 4: 21:10 to 24:30 Drinking a Beer
* Show opener track was "Mixed Signals" from Pixmo * First voice over track was "Back to You" from The Bart Chucker Band's In a Lifetime Album * Second voice over track was "Sisters" from The Bart Chucker Band's In a Lifetime Album
- Mack Starks
Sun, 11 Sep 2005 18:35:42 -0800
Genre: Pop Rock Artist: Mack Starks Album: Blind Spot Label: Nitrolain Website: mackstarks.com This week?s featured artist is Mack Starks and all the songs featured on this show are from his brand new 10 song LP entitled Blind Spot. Mack delivers a powerful punch with well written music and insightful lyrics. He comes from a 90?s breakout band called Farmer Not So John, where they were once referred to as the ?Pink Floyd of alternative country?. There is little wonder why given the fact that Mack does hover around a theme here in Blind Spot. As each successive track passes, Mack diligently uncovers more of the theme with all the mastery of a Pink Floyd album. I certainly found a lot to like with Blind Spot and with Mack?s first album, Elsewhere, as well. Have a listen to the podcast and if you like what you hear, please support Mack?s music by buying this really great album. Track List Track 1: 00:14 to 3:40 America Track 2: 05:10 to 9:01 The Fog That Follows Track 3: 09:01 to 12:55 Parasite Track 4: 16:18 to 21:20 Blind Spot

- Muelle
Sun, 28 Aug 2005 23:53:54 -0800
This week?s featured artist is Muelle (pronounced ?mule?). They come from Richmond, Virginia and with their brand new album, Falling Anyway, they will most certainly wow you with their diverse style and impeccable musicianship. They started turning heads in 2000 in Muelle?izing cover songs from the likes of the Allman Brothers, Phish and Stevie Wonder throwing in originals here and there. As they continued getting out and playing more and more, people started noticing, not only the incredible jams, but the wonderful originals as well. As word hit the street, their fan base swelled in their Shenandoah home town.
In 2002, the relocated to Richmond, Virginia and signed with a booking agency that thrust them out heavily into the college scene, playing places like James Madison University, University of South Carolina and Vanderbilt where word of Muelle began to spread like wildfire. Honing their craft there eventually lead to breaking in to the local Richmond music scene where they really took off and gained widespread popularity. They have gained so much steam, in fact, that they have had the honor of sharing a stage with bigger named acts like The Dave Matthews Band, Norah Jones, Yes, The Marshall Tucker Band, Rod Stewart and Sponge.
This brings us to June, 2005 with the release of Falling Anyway, their debut album. If you are looking for an album that will scratch your diverse nerve right where it itches, consider adding Falling Anyway to your collection.
If you want to find out more about Muelle, you can check out their website .

- Life of Pi
Fri, 12 Aug 2005 20:50:26 -0800
This week?s featured artist is Tampa, Florida?s Life of Pi. The selections featured on this podcast all come from their sophomore album, Pyrrhic Victory. This album is as much a history lesson as it is a testament to how good rock used to be. They sound a bit like Weezer on a Ziggy Stardust high if they were smoking out in the quad with my high school history teacher. All kidding aside, Life of Pi makes quite a few references to obscure points in history, leading me to believe that they are weaving a message out of the collections of music on this album. I could be completely wrong considering the fact that I am fairly historically inept. But it has me thinking, which is the corner stone of a great album ? music with something to say.
Life of Pi traces it beginnings back to 2002 where guitarist Stephen Hammill met up with guitarist/vocalist, Ben Coia. They wrote some songs, recorded some demos and decided to create something bigger by completing their line-up with bassist Sheldon Courtney and drummer Brian Pi.
With two albums under their belts and live dates around the Tampa area, Life of Pi has a real solid start to an incredible launch into the independent music scene. If you would like to find out more about Life of Pi, you can visit their website, lifeofpiband.com, or their myspace profile. You can also purchase their debut CD, Sunrise With Seamonsters, or they brand new Pyrrhic Victory at CDBaby now!

- Peter Adams
Sat, 09 Jul 2005 21:43:02 -0800
This week?s featured artist is Peter Adams. I know that I drone on and on about how great I think DIY solo artists, who record great sounding albums on their home computers, are, but Peter's album, "The Spiral Eyes", is one of the absolute best DIY albums I have had the pleasure of hearing. From start to finish, the album is chock full of flavorful melodies wrapped around simple progressions, meaningful orchestration that would make The Beatles weep, and layered onto intresting soundtracks throughout. It certainly is a collection of work that could easily rival the music and recording quality that you would expect from a mainstream album.
Peter began his musical career at the age of three where he started learning to play the violin. He eventually dusted off an old guitar that he found when he was 14 which lead him to begin writing songs at the age of 17. Then in 2004 he released The Spiral Eyes, which he notes was influanced heavily by Neutral Milk Hotel, Radiohead, The Beatles, The Flaming Lips and Nirvana. Though he lists many, many other music influances, he singles out these particular artists as the primary influances for the album.
There are a lot of great things that can be said about Peter and The Spiral Eyes, but the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. Listen to it and I am certain that you will be hooked into the masterful quality of the album and wish to own a copy for your collection.
If you would like to find out more about Peter Adams and his music, you can check out his website, peteradamsmusic.com. You can also pick up a copy of The Spiral Eyes from his website or through CDBaby.com.

- Keaton Simons
Sun, 01 May 2005 18:48:07 -0800
This week?s featured artist is Keaton Simons. As you are well aware by now, I really, REALLY dig artists with a wide diversity. I never bought into the whole corporate spiel that artists like this are hard to sell. Perhaps if you have a model where your advertisers believe your cock and bull stories about listeners being sheep and won?t listen to much passed x genre. I won?t hear of it. I have far too much faith in the music lovers out there that dig music, all music. Keaton is one of those artists that isn?t afraid to play something jazzy, then jump into a salty blues number, and then into a hard driving rock song. I know you have heard artists attempt this before, but I promise you, Keaton pulls it off and pulls it off so damn naturally! The raw talent that Keaton delivers in his Exes And Whys double CD is nothing short of phenomenal.
Keaton comes for a ?showbiz? family. His bio takes you through a rather long shopping list of family members that played major roles in television, film and music. There is little wonder that Keaton wouldn?t have followed in the same footprints to continue on this tradition of entertaining.
Keaton has had many accomplishments since beginning writing music in college. He has worked what many known artists, such as Tre Hardson, Kim Hill and underground Hip-hop artists like Medusa. He has even appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno right along side Snoop Dogg. He was asked to write the music for a feature filmed called Mercy Streets, which was released in 2000. And has even dabbled in some acting with landing a part in Bob Dylan?s Masters Of War what was featured on NBC?s American Dreams series. If things continue like this, we are going to start seeing more and more from this talented and versatile artist.
His current CD, Exes And Whys is a literal smorgasbord or eclectic genres that would normally clash. However, Keaton seems to have such a command over each particular genre that you loose yourself in the music. Pink Floyd had a way of doing this. Though there isn?t anything Floydian about Keaton?s music, he also pulls out all the stops and uses all forms of music to create something really memorable and well worth the asking price for this 26 song double CD.
If you want to find out more about Keaton, you can visit his website at keatonsimons.com. You can also purchase your very own copy of Exes And Whys at cdbaby.com. I highly recommend the CD and it would make an excellent addition to anyone?s CD collection no matter what genre you dig.
