When we ADDers are stressed, out of place, in a fog, overwhelmed, or whatever ... we know how tough it is to make progress or get anything accomplished. Why? At those times, the prefrontal cortex of our brain is not functioning properly. It can be seen in the concentration SPECT scans that Dr. Amen does. But the result to us ADDers is the loss of 2 systems in our brain: 1) Behavioral Inhibition System "the brain's boss" and 2) Executive Functions "the brain's boss." This podcast features audiobook chapter 4 of "ADD, Christianity, & the Church."

share the true store of an ADDer elected to a church office that he doesn't think he can fill or manage because of the ADD
that he doesn't even know he has! He just knows that he's already overwhelmed and so distracted that he can pray, read the
Bible, or pay attention to the sermon like he knows he's supposed to. Jim thinks he's a spiritual failure.

This podcast is exclusively for the "ADD Church PodCast." The ADD RealityCheck PodCast has it's own exclusive program, too. In this podcast, the 1st 2 chapters of the "ADD, Christianity, & the Church" audiobook will be shared. Authors Jonathan Scott Halverstadt and Jerry Seiden share their "Mission" in the book and begin the "Face of ADD" true stories. This podcast just scratches the surface for all the different variations, types, and personal experiences of ADDers in and out of church life. In coming podcasts Jerry and Dennis will share the entire audiobook in between other podcasts with current events or group discussions. ADD in the Bible is seen in the New Testament stories of Martha, the sister of Lazarus and Mary.Pastor Jerry reads a portion of the book "ADD, Christianity, & the Church." Martha was a good example of someone with ADD plus intensity, worry, and overwhelm. Jesus showed Martha compassion and understanding even when she was critical and harsh with Him. The relationship struggles of Martha is a good example of the tensions that arise in ADD relationships and marriages today

Jerry Seiden reconnects in this "simul-cast" -- intended for both the "ADD Reality" and "ADD Church" podcasts. It's more than just an update by Jerry -- it's a reintroduction. Jerry begins to share bits about himself and his goals (along with the Spirit of Hope crew -- especially co-host Dennis, the technical wizard and sometimes "other voice"). This podcast Jerry begins to share portions of the audio recording "The ABC's of ADD/adhd." Although it was recorded in Naperville, Illinois some years ago, it is an entertaining piece of informative info about ADD/adhd and also the speaker. Stay tuned.... upcoming podcasts will feature more discussions with ADDers from the meetings as they discuss newsletter articles and materials from SofH books.... and do some skits!
