- Passing of LDS President Hinckley
Mon, 28 Jan 2008 23:02:00 GMT
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole of the LDS church with the passing of President Hinckley this past weekend. As many of you will recall, it was the death of Pope John Paul II that spurred Sarah and I into producing the CMP. Now, a few years removed from that event, we watch as the LDS Church goes through it's own transition of leadership. On this day, I'm reminded of the kind words President Hinckley had to say regarding Pope John Paul II, "My beloved brothers and sisters, on behalf of the worldwide membership of this Church, I extend to our Catholic neighbors and friends our heartfelt sympathy at this time of great sorrow. Pope John Paul II has worked tirelessly to advance the cause of Christianity, to lift the burdens of the poor, and to speak fearlessly in behalf of moral values and human dignity. He will be greatly missed, particularly by the very many who have looked to him for leadership." Now it is the Catholic Church's turn to echo those words.
While it was some time before the Catholic Church knew who would be called as the next Vicar of Christ, the LDS Church has a clear plan of succession from the President, to the First Counselor, to the Second Counselor. Based on this plan of succession, it appears Thomas S. Monson will be/is the next President of the LDS Church. - Thanks Fr. Roderick for the plug!

Sarah and I would like to thank Father Roderick for mentioning the Catholic Mormon Podcast on his Daily Breakfast podcast #345...
We continue to be amazed and humbled by the wonderful emails we receive and traffic that continues to come to the CMP website. Thank you to everyone who has written us and posted on the site. By the pictures, you can see an example of what we've been doing rather than podcasting... not to sound like a broken record, but one of these days we'll turn out a new show. There are actually a few emails that I've been (and will continue) holding until we do the next show because they are just that good.
Again, thanks for stopping by and Peace be with you all...
--rob - Happy Easter and Welcome
Tue, 10 Apr 2007 01:58:00 GMTHello everyone, Sarah and I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! For us, it was very enjoyable with my family but WOW was it cold in Northeast Ohio... seriously, what's up with snow in April??? C'mon now, global warming....humm... The kids just had to do the egg hunt inside grandma and grandpa's house this year!
I'd also like to thank my wonderful wife for allowing me to be a complete couch potato during the Masters.
Unfortunately Sarah was not able to go to Mass as our youngest son Billy had her up all night and wasn't feeling well enough to attend. I do have to share with you one funny story though from Mass. OK, so we (our two oldest children, my Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law and I) went to the 9am Mass and we're sitting there waiting...and waiting... now it's 9:05 and nothing... then the Deacon came out to say that we'll begin the Mass as soon as the Celebrant arrives. With that you could hear a low volume wave of chatting cross the entire church as people began to speculate as to what was going on. A few minutes later, the Priest arrived and the enterance procession began. The priest arrived at the front of the church and greeted everyone by saying "I'd like to welcome everyone to the 9:12 Mass." and a slight chuckle crossed the church. Fast forward to the homily... now I love the homily and this perticular priest is fantastic. He started out by saying "In today's world, we are so caught up with moving quickly through tasks... We are a task based society, we even coined a new phrase, 'multitasking'." (by the way, this pretty much sums up my life, so it really captured my attention!) He continued to say, 'You know what multitasking is, right? It's like when you're sitting on your chair, drinking a cup of coffee, petting your dog, watching Meet the Press on tv and someone walks in to say - Father, you have the 9am Mass today." What a great way to think on your feet!!! Absolutely hilarious!!!
So, how was your Easter? I'd especially like to extend a welcome to those who entered into the Catholic Church this Easter! It's Sarah's 5 year anniversary of becoming Catholic and it's still amazing to think about all of the events of that time in our life! Please feel free to email or send some pictures of your Easter celebration. If you completed your journey of conversion this past weekend we'd love to hear from you and see pictures!
- New show recorded, but...
Thu, 29 Mar 2007 01:59:00 GMTHey Gang,
I wanted to get a quick not out to all of you to let ya know that Sarah and I had actually recorded a show on 3/18, but after we were finished, I discovered that they mic input wasn't set to the mixer and her laptops built in mic did a pretty crappy job of picking up our voices. I'm working to clean and boost it as much as possible. Don't want you thinking that we've dropped off the earth yet again so to speak...
On another note, I have been keeping up with everyone's posts and appreciate all the activity on the site! Finally, I'm switching the catholicmormon.com domain name to Go Daddy and you may experience a brief interruption of this domain name resolving at some point in the next week. Hopefully not, but just in case... that's why.
Did you happen to see the Pope's affirmation that Hell really does exist? If not, here's a link... Does this come as a surprise to anyone?
- Show #43 - ...Finally!
Sun, 25 Feb 2007 04:18:00 GMT
Finally... that's about the only reasonable title we could come up with for this show.
As mentioned in the podcast, here is the link to Skype. Please let us know what you think by leaving a FREE voice mail using Skype. Our screenname is 'catholicmormon' and we look forward to hearing from you!
As always, you can also email us at catholicmormon@gmail.com
Thanks again to everyone who has stuck with us over the months and years and a huge welcome to all the new listeners of the CMP! - Announcing CMP Voicemail
Sun, 18 Feb 2007 19:20:00 GMT
All I can say is that it feels great to be doing something with the CMP site once again. The wheels are turning to find ways to involve all of you. I think we've come up with a good one. Actually, it's a back to the future move so to speak.
Sarah and I purchased a one year subscription to Skype voice mail for our account 'catholicmormon'. With this subscription, you now have the ability to leave us a voice mail up to 10 minutes in length (mini show??? humm....)
If you have never used Skype before, it's a totally free program you can download at www.skype.com and once you've installed the program you can add our screenname (catholicmormon) to your contact list.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts on the show, faith, personal stories or anything else you'd like to share. Sarah and I will be going through the voice mails and will be sure to use them in upcoming shows. Please drop us a line - this is your show too!
thanks,

- CMP Update
Fri, 16 Feb 2007 02:25:00 GMT
In an effort to ensure that those who remained subscribed to the CMP know that there is some action on the website, I wanted to put out this brief audio update.
Thought I'd also share a recent picture of the kids helping mommy...
Thanks again for staying subscribed!
--rob - What's in a vote?
Wed, 14 Feb 2007 04:49:00 GMTWell, the political season here in the good ole US of A is heating up... already. Is it me or does this 'season' seem to be starting earlier and earlier every cycle?
While Sarah and I haven't yet recorded our next show, we've been kicking around some ideas and with the flurry of Presidential bids being announced, I thought I'd throw out my two cents and see what all of you out there are thinkingā
As you obviously gathered by the title of this posting and the graphic, I'm going to share some thoughts on the Presidential campaign of Mitt Romney (www.mittromney.com) which he announced today, February 13, 2007. I donāt think itās a big surprise that Mitt is LDS, right? You knew thatā or did you? I actually started writing this blog post prior to his formal announcement and speculated as to how (or if, for that matter) the media would make a big deal about his LDS faith. Well, Mitt beat me to the posting and USA Today newspaper has already answered my question to some degree. Iām actually writing this post from snowed in St. Louisā and wondering if Iām going to be able to get home to Cleveland tomorrow relatively on time - one can only hope! This morning, I was very surprised to see a picture of Mitt and his Mormon faith on the cover page of the newspaper as I rolled out of bed and grabbed the paper that had been slid under my hotel door during the night.
Now granted, I didnāt have any time today to watch the news on tv or gather any other sources, but that one event said to me that this will be 'an issueā that will be discussed in the media. Letās face it, ānewsā has become more about sensationalism than facts (at least in my opinion) and to that end, Iām fairly certain there will not be any shortage of āsensationalā stories should they decide to dig into Mittās family history and faith. The big question is, how will Mitt address this and will this attention be a good thing or a bad thing for the LDS church? How will exaggerations or misrepresentations be addressed by church leadership? Should they be addressed by Church leadership?
Now, as a voter Iām going to share some thoughts with you in the hope of generating a good and open discussion on whatās in a vote. As a general political philosophy, Sarah and I tend to side more often with Republicans than Democrats ā So, I guess that makes us conservatives in nature and superseding all of that, weāre Catholics who make decisions based on principles. No, we didnāt vote for John Kerry because heās Catholic, actually, we didnāt vote for him at all. In our opinion, he lacked personal ethics and consistency toward his faith given some of his political positions ā not the lease of which is his stance on abortion! Iām sorry, but I couldnāt buy the idea that Iām Catholic, but will choose to live my (political) life in a manner inconsistent with my Catholic faith. You are the sum of all your parts ā mind, body, history, faith, goals, blab la bla. Are Sarah and I the only ones who see this as a MAJOR issue of personal integrity that should carry over to oneās political career?
OK, so now we have Mitt Romney in the race for the White House. True that his values are much more in line with those of Sarah and I in terms of the value of life, economic policy and the role of individuals verses ābig governmentā. Great. Butā there is that religion issue. Clearly Mitt would disagree with Sarah and I on the issue of whoās faith is established by God. Technically, we donāt disagree a little ā we disagree a lot! Our faiths in the bluntest of terms are mutually exclusive ā there is no shade of one in the other. Itās either Catholic 100% right or LDS 100% right. Either Our Lordās Church has had an unbroken line of succession and the keys of Godās kingdom have been passed down through the Chair of Peter OR God took the keys away shortly after the death of the last of the twelve original Apostles and restored His Church through Joseph Smithā black or white āperiod.
As a voter, Iām now presented with the question of how much I should value the personal religion of a political candidate. True, I like what he stands for on the political issues. Iām sure heās a good, well intentioned, honest man. Iām not questioning that at all. However, after having studied and experienced the LDS religion, I have formed opinions which (if I am to be consistent in my overall principles for living my life in an integrated fashion with my religion) should also be considered with casting my support for one man. Call it what you want, Iām not bashing on Mitt or the LDS religion, but I will probably be looking for another candidate to vote for during this election season should he get the Republican nomination. I simply cannot bring myself to vote for a person who holds such different views of who God is and holds very different opinions on Christianity.
I suspect this will be a major MAJOR issue has his political opponents trickle information to the media. Itās going to be interesting to see what the media picks up on and how he responds, but one thing is now clear to me ā this will come up.
What are your thoughts ā is this a big deal to you? Do you think it will be a big deal in the media? Do you think itās even fair for us to consider the faith of a man when choosing a leaderā
- beeeeeeeeep..... CLEAR! beep...beep...beep...
Tue, 30 Jan 2007 01:28:00 GMT
ooohhh boy has it been a long time... and ooooh boy oh boy has that come across loud and clear in the posts from the previous show (and gmail).
OK, now for the reason... Well, truth be told, there isn't a good one. I guess you could say that we burned ourselves out in the first year, flickered through most of 2006 and now we find ourselves plopped smack dab at the start of 2007. I know this probably isn't the reason some of you may have been looking for or whatever the case may be, but it's the truth. That said, Sarah and I do feel very bad about 'leaving you hanging' and going AWOL for so long (including Christmas...).
So, this presents us with a few questions that we (y'all too!) need to answer... First, is the CMP worth continuing in it's current or some new form? I tend to think it is, but needs to change form to something easier to produce. Secondly, is there any new or broader perspective that we should introduce such as a side-bar focus on other faiths? The second question is a little tougher as it may expand our audience participation, but sacrifice this little niche that we've carved out for ourselves, not to mention that neither Sarah nor I really know enough to put half-way decent content together. I, personally, vote for keeping the CMP focused on C and M for the P...but who knows, maybe others want to know a little more about J, I, L, B, or other religions... (incase anyone was wondering, I had in mind Judaism, Islam, Lutheran and Baptist in mind when I wrote the letters...)
At this point, there are a few truths I know. First, there's no question about our faith. Please don't mistake the absence of the show for anything other than a lapse of passion to produce it coupled with a need to focus on our family. Second, the supportive emails and posts on the blog are greatly appreciated and partially responsible for us wanting to 'do something' once again! Third, we miss you guys... honestly, it's like something has been missing in our lives too. However, this time around I'm going to try to maintain more of a balance in show related activities and family related activities. Looking back at some of the posts from previous shows, it was obvious that I suffered from CBPS - Constant Blog Posting Syndrom. Seriously... what the heck was I doing posting at all hours of the day and night??? loco... Now, I'm out of CBPS rehab and going to get my feet wet again.
So, what do ya think? Willing to give the CMP another try?
Take care and thanks for sticking with us...

First, where the heck did summer go??? Jeez o man, we cannot believe the leaves are starting to turn already!
You'll probably find this show a little more 'raw' when compared to a typical show. In the interest of time, we've decided to keep some of the 'screw ups' that we would have otherwise edited out... hope it isn't terribly distracting! We hope you agree this is a great show, it's packed with your emails and our responses... this was truely a listener inspired show, thank you!!!

On another note, let us never forget 9/11 (a very moving clip at the end of the podcast titled 'Silent Night 9-11' - Show #41 - When Sarah was Mormon
Mon, 21 Aug 2006 03:49:00 GMT
Thanks for all of the emails and posts on the web site over the past several weeks. It felt really good to turn out a new show and get some of the podcast rust off of us that has developed. Please continue to send us your conversion stories, thoughts & reactions to topics discussed along with anything else you would like to contribute! - Show #40 - Emails, Saints and Frogs
Wed, 28 Jun 2006 02:37:00 GMT
Hey Gang - Inspiration has struck... Sarah and I decided to do something a little different this time. We recorded this show using GarageBand on her MacBook outside. Hopefully the sound quality is acceptable and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that those are frogs in the background. Honest, we have no clue!
Thanks to everyone who has posted on the web site and sent emails. As we mentioned a few shows ago, it's your questions and thoughts that are going to shape the show and determine how often they come out for the most part!

Hey Gang, the well is dry currently for July's Conversion Cast. Will this be the first month without one??? Who's going to answer the call??? Don't just expect the other lister to send in theirs!!!
On a brighter note, we have received a great Saint related email for our next show, thanks to Jason for stepping up!
Thanks gang for your help, we all benefit.
--rob - Show #39 - The Reward is Worth the Journey
Sun, 11 Jun 2006 04:00:00 GMT
Hey Gang - thanks for sticking with us. This was a fun show to produce as we worked our way through a couple emails and ended up spending a good amount of time talking about one perticular email of a couple in the early stages of working out this religion thing... it brought back a ton of memories!
Also in this show, I mentioned video podcast Mormon Cast. It's a weekly video podcast that presents a variety of topics from cooking to LDS movies... well produced. Check out the website at www.mormoncast.org
**CALL FOR CONTENT***For shows planned in July, we're looking for you to contribute in a couple specific topics. The first will deal with Patron Saints. Who is your Patron Saint and why? Tell us a little about this person and why they are so special to you. The second topic will deal with the topic of Exorcism. Not sure how deep or where this one will go, but it should be interesting!!!

A rainbow is seen in the sky as the Pope Benedict XVI pays his respect to the victims of the former Birkenau Nazi death camp in Oswiecim, southern Poland May 28, 2006. Calling himself 'a son of Germany,' Pope Benedict prayed at the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz on Sunday and asked why God was silent when 1.5 million victims, mostly Jews, died in this 'valley of darkness.' Sun, 16 Apr 2006 00:32:00 GMT
Although I'm sure some of you have already seen this video from our website, I thought it would be nice to share with all and the timing couldn't be better, right?
Sarah and I are so happy on this day when those of you who have walked the long journey through the RCIA classess with curiosity, excitement, perseverance and prayer. TODAY IS THE BIG PAYOFF!
In this video, you see Sarah come into the Catholic Church along with several of the friends we came to know so well during the classes. Although the shots don't really show her face too often, you can sorta figure it out. She took on the name 'Anne'. Father Tom presided over the Mass (and married us as a little side note).
Please share your experience with us!!! If you were received into the church this year, tell us about your experience, was it what you had hoped it would be? How did you feel receiving Our Lord during Communion for the first time? We REALLY want to hear what it was for you...send pictures...voice mails...emails...anything. Tue, 4 Apr 2006 02:59:00 GMT
Here's a special CMP that I had to get out to everyone. Ray provided a wonderful reversion story and I accidently didn't include it in April's show. It's good... real good and something that anyone who has gone down the road of a mixed faith relationship can associate with. The original text of his story can be found HERE. As I mentioned in the beginning, I tried my best to translate his post for ease of reading in the show (and I hope I did a good job).
After listening to this show, you'll understand the picture a little better, but it is just one of many examples of how Sarah is a little more laid back than Rob. - Show #36 - April Conversion Cast ( & more)
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 23:54:00 GMT
Hey Gang we hope you enjoyed this month's conversion stories and we're really looking forward to the feedback we (hopefully) will receive to the many LDS questions we presented throughout the podcast.
In this show we also mentioned two new Catholic podcasts that we subscribe to and really enjoy. They are:
The Catholic Adventurer Podcast and The Catholic Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses Podcast
Music played during the conversion story was provided by the Podsafe Music Network. Many thanks to Jim Farley for his beautiful songs Silver and New Beginnings. Jim's website can be found HERE - Baby got book

This is what happens when I have too much time on my hands, but Sarah is unable to assist in putting a show together. We're getting ready to celebrate our one year anniversary of producing the CMP and ask everyone to share a though about the show. We're certain that all Catholic Podcasters will be discussing the many meanings behind Lent this week and in the week's to come - it is a very special time in the Church's year. The New Advent website has a very good overview of the history, meaning and purpose for Lent.
For those of you who enjoyed the opening prayer in this show, the name of it is 'Prayer to Saint Ambrose' and can be found HERE.

Yep, it's a bonus CMP cast filled with your emails, discussion on the US Supreme Court and our thoughts regarding a fellow CMPer's situation at work.
Two web sites were mentioned in this podcast:
HERE is the link to Julie's Happy Catholic Blog. She's got a great site with tons of interesting reading for all to enjoy. Including her conversion story. (Sorry Julie that I was not able to access it during the recording of the show, although I do see that it's back up now...)

Special thanks to Fr. Finelli at iPadre.net Podcast for the great tour of a Catholic Church. Please check out his show, we think you'll like it!
Also, be sure to check out the first two comments, they are the emails Rob mentioned during the show from Tom and John. Sorry guys that I wasn't able to fit them in during the show, but Sarah and I did want to share them with the CMP community.
Also mentioned in this podcast is the "7 Habits" by Dr. Stephen Covey. You can find his main web site at FranklinCovey.com

Tue, 3 Jan 2006 03:15:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
Well CMP'ers... Sarah and I started to record a show on Friday night (our only real chance during the weekend) and our mixer died about three minutes into the show. It runs on a 9v battery - I know...pretty cheap, but it gets the job done - and we were amazed to find that NONE of the kids toys used a 9v battery that I could borrow.
Sooo... that's why we have nothing new for this past weekend. We are VERY sorry about this as we know how many of you look forward to a new show.
We will have January's conversion cast and other fun stuff for you at the end of this week.
A HUGE thanks to everyone who has voted for us at Podcast Alley and please keep the audio clips, Gizmo phone calls (678-292-0191) and other emails coming! We promise to make this up to you very very soon. First of all, Merry Christmas to the CMP Community around the world. May the Blessings of God be with you throughout the year!
This is the special Christmas Traditions show Sarah and I have been talking about over the past month or so.
Although we only received a few tradition stories from the listenership, we were able to pull together a great show that includes a brief conversation with our two oldest children - Robbie and Abby along with a very nice chat with Rob's parents.
From time to time you will hear music in the background courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network
Below is the song list in the order they are played:
- We Three Kings - classical guitar trad Christmas carol - Derek K. Miller
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Chris Barker
- Silent Night - Julie Melton
- Silent Night with It Came Upon A Midnight Clear - Doug Boldt
- O Come, O Come Emmanuel with What Child Is This - Doug Boldt
- Oh Come All Ye Faithful - Gary Sunblad

YES!!! In an effort to make life as easy as possible for sending in those voicemails, we (ok, Rob...) forked out the cash to setup a Gizmo Project phone number!
Got something to say? Give us a buzz anytime day or night and leave a voice mail with your thoughts.
Normal long distance charges will apply and the phone number is based out of Atlanta, GA USA, but if you live in the United States and have free long distance (like many cell phone plans) then the call is virtually free.
Alternately, you can download Gizmo to call us totally free using your computer. Our screen name is catholicmormon (as if you expected it to be anything else).
Hope to hear from you soon!!!
Oh yea, one more thing... we also just signed up with MySpace, so stop by and add youself there is you want! The link is myspace.com/catholicmormon. - Passing of Alan's Friend
Sat, 19 Nov 2005 04:55:00 GMT Author: Rob
Again, I'd like to thank everyone for their prayers as we stood by Alan and his Friend. It's hard to understand why things happen when they do. Our faith in God props us up when we feel weak. Plans known only to Him slowly become revealed to us over time. No one can say why things happen in the moment, but over time the answers become clear in most all cases.
Please pray for the soul of Alan's Friend as he has come home to Our Lord and witnessed the face of God. - Show #27 - Heading into the Christmas Season
Sun, 13 Nov 2005 06:10:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
OK, short and sweet on the show notes. We share a few thoughts as a result of the posts and emails for November's conversion cast.
Sarah has a few interesting observations on the types of responses and a little challenge of her own to all of us as we head into the Christmas Season.
Finally, below is an Amazon link to a Little People Nativity set that we bought our children last Christmas. We loved using this toy as a tool to teach our kids about this special time of year and wanted to bring it to your attention.
Thanks again for staying subscribed to the show and please email or send us an audio comment with your family traditions for this special time of year. ...oh yea, one more thing - Don't forget to VOTE for the CMP! - Show #26 - November Conversion Cast!

It's a new month, which can only mean two things! First, it's time for the CMP Conversion Cast... and secondly, it's time for every podcaster in the world to beg for your votes at Podcast Alley. Thanks for taking a minute to show your support for our show by voting!
We have three great conversion stories in this show from CMP listeners and want to thank everyone for taking the time to make it possible.
Please keep the support coming in for Alan and his friend - featured in the previous Roadcast and mark your calendar for November 14th and say a special prayer.
Finally, we have another important cause mentioned in this show - Remembering those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. There is an audio appeal in this show and here are some relevant links:- Mission Hope Homepage

- Roadcast #2 - Update to the CMP Community
Wed, 2 Nov 2005 07:52:00 GMT Author: Rob
Update - 11/17/2005
First, I'd like to thank everyone who stood by us in prayer as we prayed for Alan's friend. It is with a heavy heart that I pass along the news that his friend has been called home to Our Lord. Additional details will be be given in an upcoming podcast, but I know many of you are checking here frequently for any type of update.
Please keep the soul of Alan's friend in your prayers and feel free to share any additional thoughts on this blog entry.
This podcast is an appeal to all the CMP listeners, Catholic Podcasters and the general Christian community for your prayers. After listening to the emails I read in this roadcast, you have to agree with me that Alan's friend is a very special person - people like this are rare in the world today and he needs our help.
Please mark November 14th on your calendar and keep his friend in your prayers that day.
Additionally, please post a comment, thought, reaction or whatever else you feel compelled to do here on the blog for all to see.
OK, I think I may have screwed up the posting of this show a little. In iTunes, it appears that there are two Roadcast #2 shows...one is only the first 6:04 of the show and the second appears to be the full installment. The name of the good show is 'Roadcast #2 - Appeal to the CMP Community' Please not that this one does NOT have the word 'An' toward the beginning...oh boy...what a mess.
Anyone know how to remove a failed iTunes entry??? Please email me and I'll be happy to fix this - catholicmormon@gmail.com Thanks and sorry... --rob - Show #25 - Observations at Mass

Thanks to Michael from Disciples with Microphones for the tip! - Sarah's Corner #1 - The Christian Debate
Mon, 24 Oct 2005 00:48:00 GMT Author: Sarah
Two podcasts in one day? What??? Well, as we kinda expected, the emails are flooding in regarding the Christian debate and how that term should be defined and applied. I really needed to put together this short Sarah's Corner podcast to make sure that our basis for stating that Mormons are not Christian is clear. Hopefully after listening, you'll agree that it has nothing to do with the use of the name 'Jesus Christ' or the purpose for which he was sent...
Secondly, it's time that the show move on to other interesting topics and stories. We've spent a lot of time on this debate and I think we're all better for having talked about this difference.
Everyone is welcome to continue this discussion, but please use our blog as the means to state your opinion. We appreciate the emails, but think that by keeping the thoughts, questions, responses, challenges, or whatever on the blog everyone can benefit.
Thanks for staying with me on this one and I'm ready to move on to other topics...how 'bout it? Sarah - Show #24 - More Baptism and the (not so) Great Apostasy
Sun, 23 Oct 2005 15:13:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
Finally, back-to-back weekends of new shows!!!
Did anyone out there happen to watch Mtv's Real World New Orleans back in 2000? If so, you may recall one of the 'real people' - Julie. She was LDS and at the time, Sarah looked amazingly like Julie - to the point that people would actually stop us to make that very comment (maybe hoping for an autograph if it were true?) You be the judge...
We hope you find this to be another great and thought provoking CMP as we continue the discussion on the meaning, form and authority required for a Baptism to be considered valid in the Catholic Church.
Please be sure to check out Fr. Finelli's podcast iPadre which can be found HERE
Sticking with the theme of Baptism and in an effort to invite you into our life a little more, Sarah and I thought you may be interested in actually seeing Sarah's Baptism into the Catholic Church. She was received in Easter 2002. This is a BIG FILE to download and I wouldn't even think of trying to watch it without a high speed internet connection, but I think most people these days should be OK. As I mentioned in the podcast, I have edited the full ceremony to only hit the high points and when Sarah is involved. Hope you enjoy!

Finally, we would like to thank everyone for voting for us at Podcast Alley and for staying subscribed. If you haven't voted for October, please do so...we're slipping! Hard to believe that it was four years ago today Sarah and I were married. My how the time goes by! Four years married; three children born, moved twice in two different states, got a dog (and lost two cats)...and ohh..by the way, we started this little thing called the Catholic Mormon Podcast!
Thanks for continuing to be a part of our lives and journey with us! --rob - Show #23 - Becoming a Saint and your Email
Mon, 17 Oct 2005 03:35:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
This is a great show and we thank everyone for continuing to spend a little time with us. Please continue to post your thoughts and thanks for staying subscribed!
In it, Sarah talks about becoming a saint and asks the question of whether or not you think certain people should have a fast track to sainthood - such as the case with Pope John Paul II.
HERE is the link to a fellow CMP listener who mentioned the show (Thanks!)
Below are the scripture references Rob did not read during the show from Eric:
We pray to the Father in Jesus' name. This is evident when we begin our prayers with "Our Heavenly Father" or "Our Father in Heaven" and close in the name of Jesus. This doctrine is founded in scripture. Jesus taught "pray to thy father... after this manner... Our Father who art in Heaven." (See Matthew 6:6-9, 3 Nephi 13:6-9). Why do we pray to God, the Father, and close in the name of his son, Jesus? Because Jesus is the great mediator. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6.) Christ was the great exemplar and the first to be resurrected and exalted. He went before showing us the way to follow to obtain salvation. His mediating relationship is also evident from what the apostle John taught -- that "we have an advocate with the Father... Jesus Christ." (1 John 2:1) He knows each who come unto him. Said he: "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." (John 10:14.) As our advocate he will at the last day judge us and present us before the father to plead our case that we did have faith in him and repent, keep his commandments, and were cleansed through his atoning blood. (See John 5: 22, Rom. 14: 10, 3 Ne. 27: 16.)

Wed, 12 Oct 2005 01:43:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
OK, so I'm going to get my feet wet with a roadcast. Needless to say, the audio quality isn't on par with our 'studio' at home, but I tried my best and will continue to look at alternative mobile recording solutions - that don't cost a lot of $$$.
I won't be offended if you don't listen to this entire show, it's just a few of my thoughts from the road. - Show #22 - Rob's Reversion to the Catholic Church
Tue, 4 Oct 2005 03:58:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
At the request of a listener, I share my experiences and thoughts on reversion (coming back, even though I never left) to the Catholic Church. Several topics including my childhood understanding of the mystery of the Trinity, how I felt when Sarah and I started going to church and some experiences while working with high school aged young adults are brought up in this episode.
Thanks again to everyone for the letters of encouragement we have received over the past couple weeks and the votes we receive at Podcast Alley!
Please let us know if you think a 'Rob Cast from the Road' is something you are willing to give a try. I can't tell you how many times I've said to myself that I wish I had a recorder to capture a thought or feeling I have at random times during the day.
Please keep in your prayers those walking the long and winding road of religious exploration and especially those attending RCIA! - Show #21 - A Spade will always be a Spade
Mon, 19 Sep 2005 14:20:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
So you're probably wondering what the heck this show is about? Let's just say that this one is a little unusual as we work our way through listener email, talk about a few recent events and share our feelings on how information about the Mormon church is given to those who are potential converts into the faith.
Topics in this show include:- A visit to our home by Mormon Missionaries
- A little more detail on obtaining the highest degree of the Celestial kingdome
- Eternal progression and why it didn't sit well with Rob
- A 1997 Time magazine interview with the current Mormon President and Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley
- Response to the 'King of the Couch Challenge"
As we post this show, we suspect there will be very mixed feelings about the content and will probably 'stir the pot' a little, but this is probably the most candid show recorded to date. Thanks again to everyone for staying subscribed, voting for the CMP at Podcast Alley and giving your thoughts to our show. - Show #20 - Conversion Cast for September
Wed, 7 Sep 2005 03:54:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by Hurricane Katrina this past week. Sarah and I will be donating all money given to the Catholic Mormon Podcast from now until at least the end of October. Please keep these people in your prayers and if you have the means, please consider making a donation of time, materials or money to help those in need.

This is the link to the magazine mentioned during the podcast regarding the differences between the Roman and Byzantine Rite Catholic Churches.

Hey CMP listeners, thanks for joining us again. In this show, Sarah and I talk a little more about contraceptives and read a listener email which is the basis for this show.
The email is presented because it outlines several common negative opinions regarding the Catholic and Mormon faiths. We look forward to reading your thoughts. The original email is Comment #1 for this blog entry.

Tue, 26 Jul 2005 15:04:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
Hey CMP listeners, it appears that we're having a problem with our iTunes subscription.
In the directory, we are listed twice. One of the feeds lists our show #16 (uploaded this past Sunday), but the other for some reason has not updated and only runs through show #15. I noticed it only because I subscribe to the 'broken' link and have since subscribed to the correct one. Until this problem is resolved, it may be a good idea to subscribe to both feeds from iTunes.
I'll keep you posted on what happens. Thanks! --rob - Have you ever had a prayer answered or witnessed a miracle?

Thanks to all who have voted for us at Podcast Alley, sent email and posted on our website! - Where's the Tabernacle?
Mon, 18 Jul 2005 03:00:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
We're curious to know where the Tabernacle is placed in your Catholic Church. Listen to show #15 for a little background on the question, then drop us a comment here with your thoughts and observations.
Section 1183 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church states "The tabernacle is to be situated 'in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor.' The dignity, placing, and security of the Eucharistic tabernacle should foster adoration before the Lord really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the alter. Does that mean front and center or in your opinion, can the tabernacle be off to one side of the church? - Show #15 - Reverence for the Eucharist
Sun, 17 Jul 2005 23:31:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
In this show, Sarah discusses what it was like when she finally told her parents about her decision to join the Catholic Church. Needless to say, it's not a fun conversation, but certainly a necessary one. We also talk about other religious podcasts. Here are the links to each of the shows we mentioned:

Please support ALL of the podcasts that your listen to by voting for us at Podcast Alley

Tue, 12 Jul 2005 01:37:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob

In the Second half of the show, we respond to a couple listener emails dealing with sex and (as always) throw in our two cents along with the Catholic Church's prespective. Sarah also mentions the organization Couple to Couple League which teaches the natural family planning method of birth control.

Mon, 4 Jul 2005 02:40:00 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
Sarah and Rob welcome all iTunes listeners to the Catholic Mormon Podcast sometimes referred to as the CMP. We've had a lot of fun producing this show and see no end in sight. Sarah was born in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (also known as the Mormon Church) and remained a faithful member until her conversion to the Catholic Church in 2002 while Rob was born Catholic, but didn't really know a whole heck of a lot about the faith and was (more or less) challenged to rediscover the Catholic Church while exploring the possibility that the Mormon Faith may be the 'True Church'
The show is designed around the personal experiences we had as we tried to search for the true church. This wasn't easy and certainly didn't happen overnight - infact, it was a two year process which took us down soooo many paths for education and soul searching.
Now, it is our pleasure to share our experiences with you in a deeply personal manner sometimes with the hope that something mentioned on the show answers a question or perhaps sparks inquiry and motivates you in whatever direction is right (whatever the heck that means?) This isn't one of those stuffy type religious shows - we have fun and enjoy sharing the path we walked (and continue to walk)toward the Catholic Church.
We usually shoot to have a new show posted each Saturday night / Sunday morning although this week is our first exception due to some personal events of the weekend.
Anyway, we're really glad you subscribed to our podcast and always welcome your comments, suggestions or whatever it is you feel motivated to share.
Peace,

- Point of Clarification in Show #5
Tue, 10 May 2005 02:49:13 GMT Author: Sarah and Rob
In our latest podcast, we mistakingly referred to the conception of Jesus as the 'Immaculate Conception' when infact, it is correctly referred to as the 'Virgin Birth'. Thanks to Joel for pointing out this all too common point of confusion. We will be sure to correct this error in terminology in the follow-up podcast later this week. - Show #5 - Virgin Birth of Jesus - not so fast?

First of all - Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers!
Sorry this is a little late. As you'll see at the end of the show, we had a little technical problem and had to cut it short. We'll plan on recording the second half of the show later this week.
Considering that it's Mother's Day weekend, we thought a show dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus was in order. This is a really interesting show that focuses on the virgin birth and how each church interprets this event. Talk about differences!!!

Ok, This is the first 'hot bed', 'button pushing' podcast that we're going to do and we're certain that it will not be the last. In this show, we address the question "Are members of the Mormon Church Christians?" The mythbusters are back with the question of Polygamy and a new item has been added to the show - Obscure Saint of the day. In an effort to create a community, Sarah and I invite you to share your thoughts on various Catholic and Mormon topics. Today, we're interested in hearing how the death of Pope John Paul II and subsequent transition to Pope Benedict XVI has impacted you. As for Sarah and I, we have been amazed at the amount of news coverage and tried to video tape every major stepping stone. As we've watched the events unfold, we talked about how wonderful it is to see this coverage and wondered if people would feel compelled to look into the Catholic faith a little more... ok, what do you think? - Show #2 - First Impressions Walking In

Thanks for stopping by. Sarah and I put together a great show and continue to work on improvements. A special thanks to Dan Tripp at outchurched.com for assisting us with a gmail account. Check out his podcast when you have a chance, they have a interesting concept by realizing that one of the largest Christian groups are those that don't actively practice their faith. Please feel free to contact us at: catholicmormon@gmail.com Send us an mp3 comment or drop us a line to let us know how to make the show even better. We'll be happy to incorporate any of your questions into a future show! - First Catholic Mormon Podcast

The Catholic Mormon Podcast is a show where the largest Christian faith is crossed with one of the fastest growing religions in the world. Sarah (a former Mormon) and Rob (a cradle Catholic) have had tremendous experiences during their conversion / reintroduction to their faiths. Although this was a very personal journey, we believe there are thousands of you out there who are walking a similar path. Our intent with this show is to say that we've been there, done that, got the shirt to prove it. Although we are both Catholic and believe the Catholic Church to be the 'true Church' for all, pounding that message is not really the purpose for this show. We want you to make decisions and want to share our decision making experiences with you. Ultimately, we want to show that open, honest communication and a truely loving relationship can defy all the odds. After listening, please send us your feedback in an e-mail or even attach a brief MP3 audio file that we can include in a future podcast - catholicmormon@gmail.com Thank you, good luck with your personal journay and always keep your heart open to God's will. --Sarah and Rob
